Key information:
Toman (or Snakehead in English; loyhe in Hokkien) is a freshwater fish found in Southeast Asian waters that is rich in protein but low in fat. The meat is light and flaky, a bit firmer than Tilapia. Some feel it is on par with cod or flounder in terms of its texture.
Studies have shown that it contains high levels of essential amino acids and fatty acids which can help accelerate wound healing. Therefore Toman is often consumed by people who have recently undergone surgery.
